Thousands of Lamu Residents to Benefit as WWF-Kenya, Kenya Red Cross Handover Ksh10 Million Disaster Management Centre
Thousands of Lamu County residents are set to benefit from a Ksh 10 million Disaster Risk Management Center that has been established by WWF-Kenya in collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross. The centre was established as part of climate adaptation efforts to build the resilience of the local community.
It will serve as the coordination centre for the Lamu County and National Government as well as partners for effective disaster management.
The facility will be used for the monitoring and coordination of multistakeholder efforts for disaster preparedness and response to extreme climate events such as the frequent flooding in Lamu County that often displaces many local people from their homes.
Using technology and data, this centre will analyze and simplify scientific information for timely sharing with the community, enabling early warning and action.
The disaster management centre was established with funding from F. Hoffman La Rouche Ltd.
