Kenya’s future hinges on the ingenuity and passion of its youth. This was evident at the inaugural National Youth Conference on Climate Change and Water Security Innovation Summit held in June 2024, where hundreds of young leaders gathered to address the nation’s water challenges.

“There is a need to work closely with the youth. The Kenya Water Ambassadors are a testament to how effective youth engagement can be,” said Mohamed Awer, Chief Executive Officer, WWF-Kenya.

The Kenya Water Ambassadors is a youth-led advocacy group that was founded during the second edition of WWF-Kenya’s Journey of Water Campaign for River Ewaso Nyiro in 2023.

The group has been leading freshwater conservation campaigns, including organizing river clean-up exercises, digital advocacy and mobilising college and university students to join the movement to conserve Kenya’s freshwater sources.
